WEST COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Anna Smith Ackerman, 94, will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Washington Street United Methodist Church with visitation to follow at the church. Burial will be private. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Ackerman died Friday, June 12, 2009. Born in Columbia on February 8, 1915, she was a daughter of the late William E. and Maude Harrison Smith.
Mrs. Ackerman attended the University of South Carolina, graduating with a B.S. degree in Commerce in 1936. She enjoyed a 30 year career with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, retiring as Assistant Director of Personnel.
Mrs. Ackerman will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, generous spirit, and warm personality. She was a lifelong and active member of Washington Street United Methodist Church.
