Mr. Richard C. Bachmann, 78, of 505 Corvette Dr., LaPorte, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at 8:30 p.m. at LaPorte Hospital.
He was born April 18, 1925, in LaPorte to Albert W. and Margaret L. (Peterson) Bachmann.
Mr. Bachmann had been vice president of sales at Marion Malleable. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in LaPorte and the American Legion. He loved to play golf and was a founder of the Martini Open Golf Tournament in LaPorte. He was in the first class of the LaPorte Slicer Football Hall of Fame and in 1942 was the first to be named Most Valuable Player for the Northern Indiana Football Conference by the South Bend Tribune. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
On Sept. 19, 1964, in LaPorte, he married Sandra A. Koehler, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Andrea (Tony) Forsthoefel of Lansing, Mich., Carla S. (Jim Vepley) of Waukegan, Ill., and Brenda of San Antonio, Texas; one son, Bryan R. (Mindy) of Aurora, Ill.; four grandchildren, Brianna, Alyssa, Vincent and Lewis; two sisters, Ruth H. Stassel of LaPorte and Loraine H. Alban of Memphis, Tenn.; and three brothers, Albert E. of Florida and Robert A. and William C., both of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family service was held with Rev. Laura Altman officiating. Burial was in Carmel Cemetery, LaPorte County, with full military rites. Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, was in charge of arrangements.
