Betty lou Landrum, 78, of Bloomington, stepped into Heaven on Monday,November 23rth 2009 at home after a long illness.

Betty was born on Dec. 3, 1930, in Bloomington to Charles and Inez (Phelps) Robertson. She married James Landrum on August 8, 1948, faithfully serving by his side as a military wife and minister's wife for 61 years.
While her husband was in the Korean War she said she wept every night.


Together they served nine churches in Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana and Nebraska, teaching Bible classes, directing VBS programs and church camps in several states including Four Corners,Wy where she was Dean of Women. She also was a Director of a Licensed Church Kindergarten in Illinois and presented workshops for CITMA (Central Indiana Teaching Methods Association)/Standard Publishing training teaching skills for small children's ministry.
She was also involved with Mt. Olive Christian Church as music director,singing duets,and preparing Holiday musicals in Morgan County for six years.

She helped establish the Indiana Children's Christian Home at Ladoga, Indiana, in the 1960s.
She opened up her home to the first directors of the
Childrens Home ,Bill and Doris Tucker, providing housing and meals until they found a house to live in.

She opened up her home in Illinois to entertain her friends,Hazel and Cookie VanDyke,parents of Dick and Jerry teaching them 'the plan of salvations' as well. She took her family to the premier of "Mary Poppins' as guests of the VanDykes.

Betty took trips to the Holy Land, which deepened her passion for the Scriptures, missions and children's ministry.

Some of the countries she traveled to are: Holland,Switzerland,Belgium,Greece,Italy,Israel,Egypt,
and several trips to Canada.She traveled to most major
cities in the United States.She enjoyed New York,Chicago,
Omaha,the California and Florida Cities,and lived in Denver,Colorado.

She loved her trips to Egypt and riding a camel in the desert of Egypt and to the Pyramids as well as sailing on the Nile River.

She helped establish the Christian Food and Medical ministry for feeding families worldwide, including Honduras, Haiti, South America, Russia, the Holy Land, India, Thailand, Burma, and children in Europe.

Betty traveled to Nebraska to assist in buying a container of beans to ship to Honduras. This food distributed by the youth in Honduras fed 4,300 families.Other great amounts of
food and medicine was distributed world wide from her CFMM Ministry.

Betty also worked with International students from I.U., actively involved with their Bible studies and hosting many in her home. She became very passionate about CRAM (Christ Reaching Asia Missions) ministries, which feeds children in North Korea and other Asian countries.

Betty retired from Phi Delta Kappa in Bloomington after 13 years of service. Prior to that she worked at Copy Type in Bloomington. Before moving back to Bloomington, she had worked at Western Nebraska Hospital in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Upon her return to Bloomington, she assisted her husband in establishing Northside Christian Church and was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

Betty,with Jim began 'retracing' their honeymoon trip across Canada to Niagria Falls,annually,starting with their 50th Wedding Anniversary. She learned from the Canadians how to grow unique flowers which adorned her
home.
Her photographs taken on her first trip to the Falls and on her 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Falls became popular with family and friends.Produced by her son,Steve,the two showed her holding each time two 'coke bottles' with the theme 'Always together".

The Brown County Historical Society of Nashville,Indiana requested Betty update the Robertson families which she
did.She research this, updated it,made copies of this 33 page booklet for the Robertson Reunion,and included a picture of her grandfather,Elijah H. Robertson's baseball team taken at Belmont,Indiana.
Betty's Robertson clan is the from the Strunn Robertson.
The Coat of Arms and theme of the Robertsons clan is
from Jesus' words in Matthew 10:16 calling for Wisdom and Peace.

James Robertson of Scotland born about 1660 had two
sons John and James Robertson.These two sons relocated to Ireland and from Ireland came to America.The Robertsons of Brown County are from this Robertson family.

She planted an Indiana Poplar Tree on their Bloomington property for every child,grandchild,and great grandchilden of her family.

Survivors include her husband, James Landrum of Bloomington; one daughter, Sherri (Del) Hamon of Huntington, IN; five sons, Tim Landrum of Scottsbluff, NE, Steve (Nancy) Landrum of Scottsbluff, NE, Dennis Landrum of Greenwood, IN, David (Debbie) Landrum and Danny (Kelley) Landrum, all of Bloomington; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Phyllis New, and one brother, Paul Robertson, both of Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Marrill Lou Landrum; one granddaughter, Jennifer Landrum and four siblings, William Robertson, Robert Robertson, Harold Robertson and Maggie Robertson.and her grandparents
Elijah W. and Nancy(Williams) and Great Grandparents,John H.and Lucy A(Batts)Robertson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28th, at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church with Tom Ellsworth officiating.Sheri Landrum Hamon and Dan Landrum shared messages and poetry.

Burial was here at Payne Cemetery on Old Highway 37 north out of Bloomington.

Allen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Betty had many favorite Scriptures. This was one of them.


"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him." 1 Cor. 2:9

The family plans to grow flowers as she did and the flowers
will be placed in the granite vases on each side of the gravestone.
She had 6 dvd movies of her life that Jim made.Many of them
are flowers she is shown growing. One dvd is a movie of
Betty at Niagara Falls on JIm and Betty's 50th Wedding Anniversary.
