Walter and his siblings went to Kites Run School, a one room school house in the Clay District of Wood County, West Virginia.
On June 4, 1917, Walter married Ida Jane Leasure in Kanawha Station at the residence of B. F. Byrd, a Baptist Minister who married them.
Together, Walter and Ida had 13 children.

Walter served as a Private in the U.S. Army, Company "L", 67th Infantry during World War I.
In 1943, Walter divorced Ida.
Also that year, he married Minnie M. Morris Swick for the first time, December 27, 1943 at Pleasants County, West Virginia. Sometime before 1949, he divorced her and remarried her again on August 28, 1949 at St. Mary's, Pleasants County, West Virginia. Walter divorce Minnie the second time on January 16, 1968 on the grounds of desertion. Minnie left him and was gone for 2 years.
Walter retired from the B & O Rail Road as a Brakeman. He also was a farmer who in 1955 lived and worked as a Share Cropper with several of his kids on a farm owned by the Liller Family in Scherr, Grant County, West Virginia. It was during this time they found his first wife, Ida, dead in a swampy ravine not far from their house. She was coming to visit Walter and the kids.
Walter died on July 13, 1977 in Vienna, Wood County, West Virginia and is buried in the Lee Family plot at Walker Cemetery.
