Mrs. Mildred (Carper) Wilkinson, 82, of Dayton, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Wilkinson was born in Quicksburg, Va., on Oct. 23, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Garnett Lee and Mary Etta (Clem) Carper.
She had worked at Stehli Silk Mill in Harrisonburg. She was a seamstress and supervisor at Metro Pants in Bridgewater and had also worked in the Post Office at JMU.
She was a member of the Dayton Church of the Brethren and had served as Deaconess in the Bethlehem Brethren Church. She attended Linville-Edom School.
Mildred had been a member of the DAV Auxiliary Chapter 24 in Harrisonburg, where she had served a Chaplain and Treasurer. She had served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.
She was united in marriage on Sept. 27, 1947, to John Robert Wilkinson, who survives.
In addition to her husband, Mildred is survived by two daughters, Phyllis W. West and husband, Edward, of Daleville, Kathy W. Wisman and fiancé, Harlin Botkin of Head Waters; a son, Donald Wayne Wilkinson of Bridgewater; and two sisters, Redith Keller of Harrisonburg, Ruby Scudder of Rantoul, Ill. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Karen Childress, Eric Wisman and Kerry Wisman and two great-grandchildren, Beth Lindsay and Stevan Lindsay.
A funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel, Bridgewater, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, with the Rev. Marty Doss officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Service, Bridgewater, or anytime at the Wilkinson home.
