Norman D. McCollough age 80 of Clinton, TN. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. He was born and raised in Jackson, MS. and graduated from Mississippi State University in 1952.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Curtis McCollough Sr. two brothers Aubrey and Curtis McCollough Jr. and a sister Francis Westmoreland all of Jackson, Mississippi.

Married for 59 years, he is survived by his wife, and childhood sweetheart, Carolyn, a sister Mildred Rumfelt, sister-in-law Jeannette McCollough, two sons Norman and wife Karla, David and wife Kim, two adoring daughters Ivy (McCollough) Lalonde and husband Jeff and Jackie McCollough. He is also survived by five grandchildren Kristen Leigh, David Ryan McCollough and his wife Marlina, Joshua Hawkins, Adam and Alex Lalonde, three great grandchildren Kyah and Shiloh Hawkins and Skyler Wendell along with numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved 16-year old Pomeranian Rocky.

Norman enjoyed his 40-year long career beginning with his employment in the Production Department at the K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Plant from 1953 to 1960 and continuing at the Instrument and Controls Department of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) from 1960 to 1993. While at ORNL, he served on a special assignment to the Y-12 Plant for the Navy Department and also served on the Advanced Instrumentation for Reflood Studies Program with participants in Germany and Japan. This included developing, building and testing prototype sensors at Tokai Japan, Erlangen Germany and Mannheim Germany. While in Germany, he made friends easily, learned to speak German and established life-long friendships. Norman and Carolyn made numerous personal return trips to Germany, often accompanied by their children, to visit their friends and to travel together throughout Germany and Austria. During one of these trips they celebrated a wedding anniversary with their daughters. Norman and Carolyn especially loved the Bavarian region lodging often at Geiger Pension participating in local events and visiting numerous castles and other landmarks. They reciprocated hosting their friends in their home and extended a true southern hospitality.

Norman was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He also had numerous hobbies including bee keeping, playing Canasta, reading and computer activities. During his mid-life he and his wife Carolyn especially enjoyed ballroom dancing. His 1947 Central High School year book described him as a true disciple of Edison as he was interested in anything that ran by electricity. In fact, he could repair practically anything and was always working on projects. Providing guidance to his daughter Jackie on her new home construction was his last and most special project.

Norman is best known as everyone's best friend who had a keen sense of humor and for drinking coffee. He lived for his family and loved his family and friends with all of his heart. He provided his children with a concept of life based on love. He died as he lived - as everyone's friend.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Charles Mascioli and the CCU staff at the Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center for their kindness and compassion while caring for Norman. The McCollough family will receive friends Friday from 6 - 8PM at Weatherford's Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge with Rev. Troy Forrester officiating. Internment services will immediately follow at the Anderson Memorial Gardens.
