Retired MSGT Jim Biggerstaff


April 19, 1937 - October 28, 2009



Retired MSGT Jim Biggerstaff, age 72, of Marion, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 28, 2009.

A native of McDowell County, Jim was born on April 19, 1937 to the late William D. Biggerstaff and Hazel Cranford Biggerstaff.

He was a member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He was retired from the U. S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Janet Biggerstaff; a son, Simon Biggerstaff of Dayton, OH; the Cater family of England and all his extended family in North Carolina.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Revs. Douglas Prevette and Chuck Tripp officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in McDowell Memorial Park where the U. S. Air Force will provide full military honors.
