Funeral services for Arthur C. Gerstley, 71, of 50 Bates Avenue, South Weymouth were held this afternoon from 134 Pleasant Street, with the Rev. S. Burman Long, DD, pastor of the Old South Union Congregational Church, officiating. Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, South, Weymouth. Mr. Gerstley was born in Randolph, but had lived in Weymouth nearly all of his life and was well known in town. He was one of the first letter-carriers in Weymouth. He became a mail clerk and was attached to the South Postal station in Boston for a number of years, later being transferred to the South Weymouth post office from which he retired nearly 10 years ago. He died Sunday in the South Shore Hospital, where he had been a patient three weeks. His survivors include his wife Mrs. Helen W. (Hawes) Gerstley, and two sons, Robert C. Gerstley of the home address, Arthur B. Gerstley, of North Pembroke; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Varmette of Ticondaroga, NY and three grandchildren. A brother Fred Gerstley resides in Baltimore, MD.
