Funeral services for Wandalene Furgerson, 70, are to be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 30, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Calvin. Burial will follow the service at Calvin Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville. She passed away on October 27, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of seventy years, eleven months, and twenty days. Wandalene married Jess Furgerson on August 10, 1957 in Newark, California. The couple made their home in Calvin. Wandalene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Calvin and most recently attended Crossroads Free Will Baptist Church. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education and her Master's of Education from East Central University in Ada . Wandalene was a member of the OEA, and Beta Sigma Phi. She dedicated her life to teaching young people, teaching until June 2009 when her health forced her to retire. She touched young lives in Boise City, McLoud, Beaver, Okmulgee, Wewoka, CCA Davis Correctional Facility, Butner, and at Seminole State College. Wandalene was also an artist and an author; she was a writer for the Allen Advocate Newspaper and also taught GED classes. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Penny Larrel Hurrelbrink; and a grandson, Kenny Larabee.
