Elva W. (Hatch) Gerstley, 99, died on Wednesday morning at the Brockton Hospital where she had been a patient for the past week. She was the wife of the late Clarence B. Gerstley. Born in East Bridgewater, the daughter of the late Arthur T. and Lucy H. (Thrasher) Hatch, she was educated in the East Bridgewater schools and was a lifelong resident of the town. Mrs. Gerstley was an active member of the former First Parish Unitarian Church of East Bridgewater and the Women's Alliance of the church. She was a charter member of the Halifax Golden Agers and a member of the East Bridgewater Senior Citizens. Mrs. Gerstley is survived by two grandchildren, Herbert Gerstley of Boston and Sandra H. Rogers of East Bridgewater; a sister Vera H. Napolitan of East Bridgewater; two great-grandchildren Walter Brown of East Bridgewater and Wanda Cunningham of Brockton; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Francis A. Gerstley of East Bridgewater who died in January 1989, and a sister of the late Arthur M. Hatch of Halifax. The Rev. Victoria M. Smith, pastor of the Union Congregational Church of East Bridgewater, will officiate at a funeral service on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Douglas E. Wales Funeral Home, 36 Spring St., East Bridgewater. Interment will follow in Central Cemetery.
