Actor. As a performer, he was best known for his role as Lieutenant Ripley "Rip" Masters in all 166 episodes of the ABC Western television series "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin" (1954-59). After a brief period as a pro tennis player, he turned to a career as an actor appearing in his first film, "Ride, Kelly, Ride" (1941). During a four decade career, he appeared in more than 40 films, such as "Air Force" (1943), "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949), "A Star is Born" (1954), "The Police Dog Story" (1961), "Black Spurs" (1965) and "Mean Billy Borrows" (1976). His other TV credits included "Lassie," "Gunsmoke," "Route 66," "The Virginian," "Murder, She Wrote," "Dallas" and many more. After retiring from acting, he ran a successful body-building equipment company and was head of customer relations of the Faberge Cosmetics Firm. He died of cancer at age 72.
