Oma Elizabeth McIntosh was born in Yancey County on March 21, about 1862 to Sidney E McIntosh (1830-1900) & Margaret "Peggy" Anglin (1828-1900). Oma married Mitchell Shook b. UNK d. UNK; it also reported that Mitchell Shook, abandoned Ida & his family after the death of their daughter Katie; rumors are that Mitchell & Ida were not actually married but had a common law marriage relationship. Mitchell & Oma had two daughters: Ida Jane (1890-1981) and Katie. Katie birth & date of death is unknown but it is reported by Oma's grandchildren that Katie died at a very young age.

Oma never remarried. Oma and her daughter Ida went by McIntosh the rest of their lives after Mitchell abandoned them both. It is the opinion of Oma's granddaughter Ruby and great granddaughter Willie that Mitchell & Oma's had a unwed relation or perhaps Oma thought se was in an "acceptable common law" marriage, which was a custom back then. Oma never remarried. Mitchell did marry and had several children as reported by Ruby Metcalf-Burleson.

SPECIAL NOTE: Oma date of birth is listed as year 1854 but does not match 1860 & 1870 US Census Reports. 1860 does not list Oma but she should have been listed based off of her birth year on the grave marker. 1870 list Oma at approximately 8 years old which would place her date of birth about 1862. This makes sense why she is not listed in the 1860 Census Report.
