as he did not marry Catherine until 24 March 1847.

In 1850 you will find John and Catherine living on a farm in Elk Creek Virginia, on the tax record you will
see the value was $3,000 and personal property was valued at $1,000.

After the civil war and in the 1870 census they are found to be living in a small house in Independence Virginia, with little value as far as taxes. So one can tell that the civil war took a toll on them as well as others in the south.

In the probate records was the following; August 2, 1881 John Brewer deceased, settlement of property;

Persons who bought property were; Lewis C. Brewer, D. C. Brewer, D. L. Brewer, Johnston Brewer, Rufus Brewer, Sarah Brewer, Ezra Brewer, Thomas Brewer, Leftwick Brewer.

Sale of property, 4 Jan 1882 John Brewer deceased;
Vough 5, Wife $53.58, Vough 6, G. W. $13.43, Vough 7, D. L. $13.43, Vough 8, J. C. $13.43,
Vough 9, L. R. $13.43 , Vough 10, the amount of $32.60 to be divided equally to the following g/children,
R. W. Brewer, S. E. Brewer, J. W. Brewer, S. W. Brewer, and F. P. Brewer. John and Catherine gave 6
horses to the Confederate Army, Signed W. Flemming, Sgt.

Grayson County, Virginia, marriage info; Bond 1828-17; 6 November 1828; John Brewer and Cely Ellet, daughter of Joseph; Joseph Ellet, surety, Return 4-17; Rev. William Carrico married John Brewer and Celey Ellet on 6 November 1828.

Second Marriage Bond 1847-12; 24 May 1847; John Brewer and Catharine Bedwell; John Dickerson surety. Return not found.

By checking the early census John has 1 female missing born 1825/1830.

His appearance at this court to answer the complaint for being the father of a
bastard child of which Elizabeth Roark has lately delivered. Which said
Elizabeth hath since making of the complaint in this cause intermarried with
Berry Hicks. John Brewer enter into a recognisance himself in the sum of $100.00
