Candler - Leonard Woodrow Hawkins passed away peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2005, at St. Joseph's Campus of Mission Hospitals after a brief illness.

Born on April 12, 1917, he was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County. He was the youngest of 10 children of the late B.G. "Bid" Hawkins and Lilly Snelson Hawkins.

Leonard was retired from American Enka with 39 years of service and Wachovia Bank with six years of service. In retirement, he enjoyed the beauty of nature in watching and seeing God's beauty come to life each spring and grow to

maturity in his garden.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years, Blanche Greene Hawkins of whom he was her care giver for the last two years; daughter, Carol Robbins of Hendersonville; sons, Bobby Hawkins and his wife, Edna, of Asheville and Grady Hawkins and his wife, Doris, of Hendersonville; sister, Carrie Mae Ratcliff; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Ken Lewis and Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn

Memorial Park.
