John W. Von See Jr. passed away at 5:48 p.m. at his residence in Denham Springs on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011. He was 86, born in Thayer, Ind. He was a retired construction engineer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. Arrangements entrusted to Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs. Burial in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, Denham Springs. He is survived by his wife, Laura Chambers Von See; four daughters, Ann Marie Larsen, Regina "Ricki" Murtes, Carol A. Young and Caren J. Von See; two sons, Mark D. and Chris Von See; stepchildren, Emily Chambers Dawsey and husband Ed, and Bennie Chambers; brother, Charles J. Von See; 13 grandchildren, including Melissa Averett and husband Joe, Damon B. Murtes and wife Vicki, and John W. Murtes; 24 great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Von See Sr. and Tina Ruth Stetson Von See; a brother, William H. Von See; and three sisters, Esther Way, Janet Andrus and Jean DeMars. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, AARP Local Chapter 3649, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
