Ray Acquistapace
Ray Acquistapace, a life-long resident of Weed, Calif., born on Aug. 7, 1911, passed away in Hood River, Ore., on Dec. 13, 2006. He was 95.
Ray and his wife, Irma, were married on Sept. 19, 1936, and had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Ray worked for Long Bell Lumber Company/International Paper in Weed for 46 years and retired at the age of 63. The joys in Ray's life were living in Weed, his growing family, his friends of many years, baseball, bocce, and gardening. Ray was the last of the eight Acquistapace brothers to pass away.
He proudly held the bocce champion title for many years which he earned at the Italian Carnevale each summer. Even after he retired from playing bocce, it never left his blood and he was always available for advice and consultation at future tournaments.
Ray leaves his loving wife, Irma; his son, William, and daughter-in-law, Mary, from Aptos, Calif.; his daughters, Nancy Wroblewski and her husband, Mathew, from El Dorado Hills, Calif., and Deanna Wagoner and her husband, Roy, from Hood River, Ore. He also leaves seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hood River on Dec. 19, 2006. Ray's internment will be held in Weed at a date to be arranged in the spring.
