SPARTA -- Funeral services for Bessie Marie Emerton Parks, 87, of Sparta, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery.

The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. today, Monday, Oct. 6, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Parks died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, in Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

She was born June 12, 1921, in Celina to the late George and Bernettie Lynn Emerton.

Her family includes three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty and Nathaniel Crain of Spencer, Marie (Reedie) and Ronnie Brock, of Sparta and Helen Knowles of Cookeville; seven sons and two daughters-in-law, Earl Emerton of Quebeck and Carl Emerton, William and Sue Emerton, Randell, Michael and Paul Parks and Marcus and Beverly Parks, all of Sparta; a stepdaughter, Shirley Fish of Stergus, Mich.; a stepson, Morris Parks of Wilmington, Ohio; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and special friends Thelma Barnes, Connie O'Conner and Louise Davis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, William Franklin (Will) Emerton and Charlie Edward Parks; two sons, Jimmy Emerton and John Thomas Parks; two granddaughters; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Bro. Freddie Copeland will officiate at the services.
