Sarah Jo Prewitt made a difference in our world for twenty-three years before she passed away in St. Louis, Missouri, Sunday, September 6, 2009. She was born on June 27, 1986, the happy daughter of r. Gary Wayne Prewitt an Jo Beth McMurtrey Prewitt. Gary's tears of joy startled those who received his excite telephone calls that night. Sarah welcomed her brother, John, five years later, and watched after him for 18 years. Sarah was her mother's refuge in trying times; her best friend in all times.

Before and throughout her courageous battle against leukemia, Sarah was generous, humble, beautiful, and hopeful. She refused to quit on life, and she accomplished more in the few years of her sickness than many do in their entire lifetimes.

A 2003 graduate of Thayer High School, Sarah earne a Bachelor of Science in Marketing, summa cum laude, from the University of Missouri -- Columbia in May 2009.

Sarah showed dedication to her beloved Mizzou Tigers through her energy and hard work on the Student Athletic Board, her banner-waving at football games, and her driving skills behind the wheel of the "Helmet Car". Sarah held multiple offices in Kappa Delta sorority, and as a member of the steering committee for Greek Week 2007, she organized the largest blood drive held on campus. She was recognized as an accomplished student, and one dedicated to serving those around her, when she was selected to be a member of Mortar Boar, an honorary secret society. Sarah was honored as one of the University's top ten business students. She was recognized at the halftime of a basketball game as one of the Mizzou 39, a group of students selected by the Mizzou Alumni Association for their academic achievement and dedication to service. As a campus tour guide for three years, Sarah proudly showed prospective students and families the campus she loved.

"Employment" for the 5-year old Sarah began at her father's Thayer Veterinary Clinic, where she sold her grandpa's pumpkins and cleaned, then spent the proceeds on a new globe. During her high school years, Sarah fried burgers at Thayer Dairy Queen, learned a new appreciation for the meaning of the dollar, and determined that she definitely wanted to attend college. She later worked for Allen Abstract and Title Company, in the office of Attorney General Jay Nixon, and in the campaign office of Robin Carnahan.

Those mourning the loss of Sarah's smile, her kind, listening ear, gentle manner and competitive spirit include her mother, Jo Beth, brother, John, paternal grandmother, Dorothy Prewitt, maternal great aunts, Phyllis Cory and Hazel Koontz, her cousins, Tammy, Brian and Kevin, Neal, Ruth and Tess, Ashtyn and Ansley, and Lily, uncles Lary Prewitt, J.P. McMurtrey and Jeff Lenzen, aunts Janice Prewitt, Kay McMurtrey, Leslie McMurtrey and Laura Lenzen, alongwith countless friends.
