Charles Henry "Charlie" Wray, 80, of 640 Eagle Falls Road, passed away Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Annie Penn Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bill Teague officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Wray was born in Rockingham County to the late Elbert and Francis Gatewood Wray. He was a long haul truck driver for more than 38 years and was known as "Good Time Charlie." He loved his job on the road and retired from Roadway Express after 33 years of service. He was a longtime member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Charlie enjoyed gardening and fishing at the coast. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Along with his parents, he also was preceded in death by his three sisters and five brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years and the love of his life, Alice Rakestraw Wray, of the home; children, Charles Wayne Wray(Ruth), Bonnie Wray Joyce(R.L.), Deonne Wray Walker, Gary Phillip Wray, Renae Wray Gregg and Pam Wray Martin(Sam); grandchildren, Kyle Joyce, Kimberly McMichael, Susan Wray, Megan Matthews, Heather Lawson, Kevin Gregg, Miranda Surles, Caroline Jones, Rusty Gregg, Jonathan Watkins, Dean Hayden, Jeff Hayden and Dawn Cain; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Jacob, Jamie, Clay, Lawson, McKensey and Dalton; brother-in-law, Paul Rakestraw; and numerous nieces and nephews.
