SNEADS FERRY - Sterling Dixon Grant, 96, of Sneads Ferry, died July 12 at his residence.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at First United Methodist Church in Sneads Ferry with the Rev. Ira Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Family Cemetery in Sneads Ferry.
Mr. Grant was chairman in 1978 for the Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival and active with the festival's committee. He was former owner and operator of the Oyster Hut Restaurant, also in Sneads Ferry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Murrell Grant; son Eric Dixon Grant; and parents James Benjamin and Bettie Dixon Grant.
Survivors include one son, Jim Grant; two daughters, Betty Grant Allison and Elfleda "Tillie" Shepard and husband, Melvin, all of Sneads Ferry; six grandchildren, Brian Shepard, Alan Shepard, Diana Shepard Roberts, Lisa Shepard Lee, Hope Allison Nadji and Linda Grant; 10 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Harvey Bradshaw; and other dear family members Susan Yopp and Twila Williams.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Johnson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
The family welcomes flowers or memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sterling Grant to the First United Methodist Church, Sneads Ferry, building fund.
