Melvin E. Anstead, 96, of Elmore died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Genoa Retirement Village.

He was born October 9, 1912, in Elmore to the late Horatio and Maude (Hasselkus) Anstead.

On November 14, 1940, he married the former Loretta Lohrbach who preceded him in death March 7, 2003.

Melvin was a life-long farmer in the Elmore Area. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church, Elmore. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching.

Survivors include his sons, Howard (Sheryl) Anstead of Elmore, Lauren (Sue) Anstead of Seattle, WA, Donald (Jeanette) Anstead of Rimrock, AZ; daughter, Janice (Richard) Wagner of Pemberville, OH; sister, Eileen Rothert of Elmore; grandchildren, Duane (Kelly) Anstead, Dean (Stacie) Anstead, Heather Anstead, David Anstead, Angel (Harold) Wadsworth, Erin (Paul) Whitaker, Justin Anstead, Jacob (Jessica) Anstead, John (Jeseka) Wagner, Jaylene Wagner, Doug Wagner; 9 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Anstead; sister, Myrth Rauch and grandson, Marc Wagner.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore. Funeral Services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Stuhmer officiating. Burial will be in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Paul Trinity United Methodist Church, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or Harris- Elmore EMS.
