Vernon L. Stansbery, 80, died at 8:43 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2009 at his home.

He was born Aug. 3, 1928 in Mifflin Township to Lester A. and Lucille A. (Rangler) Stansbery, both of whom are deceased. On Oct. 15, 1949, he married Vera Jane Plott in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and she survives in Upper Sandusky.

Also surviving are two sons, Martin A. (Kellie) Stansbery and Scott L. (Jill) Stansbery, both of Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Susan L. (David) Ohl of Upper Sandusky; five grandchildren; a brother, Sherman (Sally) Stansbery of Upper Sandusky; a sister, Martha Passett of Upper Sandusky and a step-brother, Ned Winter of Upper Sandusky.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and a brother, Clair Stansbery.

He was a lifetime resident and farmer in Mifflin Township, except when he was away serving in the U.S. Army. He was also a lifetime member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and was a lay leader for many years.

He was a 1946 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School.

He served as a trustee for Mifflin Township for 24 years, serving at the same time on the joint hospital board of Wyandot Memorial Hospital and also on the board of the former U.S. Commission.
He also was a 25-year member of the Upper Sandusky Lions Club.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky by the Rev. Tim Benjamin. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.
