Maggie Valley - Catherine Dyer Lewis, 77, of Maggie Valley, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at Mission Hospitals in Asheville.

A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia Evans Dyer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Lewis, two sisters, Ann Johnson and Jay Setzer; and two brothers, Frank Dyer and Vinson Dyer.

She is survived by her sister, Laura Massie of Maggie Valley; brother, Ed Dyer and his wife, Betty, of Sylva; son, Johnny Lewis of Maggie Valley; daughter, Jean Edwards of Clyde; daughter, Patsy Brown and her husband, Jerry, of Candler; grandchildren, Jonathan Lewis and his wife, Marella, Tracy E. Villaveces and her husband, Eduardo, Ashli E. Aumen and her husband, Alex, and Jennifer Brown; and great-grandchildren, Jorja Aumen and Hunter, Allison, and Chase Lewis.

Mrs. Lewis was retired from BASF. She was an avid gardener and bird watcher who loved working in her beautiful flower gardens. She was a strong but kind and gentle lady who will be sorely missed by her loving family and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations, Waynesville, with the Rev. Davis Plemmons officiating. Burial will be in Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Jamie Griffith, Heath Nelson, Arnie Nelson, Tony White, Bill Messer, and Roger Edwards serving as pallbearers. Jack Lewis and Gregory Boyd will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
