James Miller Bogan, Jr.

BATON ROUGE, LA - A retired administrator with the Louisiana Department of Education of 36 years, James died on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 65, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Shreveport. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Boynton Bogan, his son Scott Edwards and wife, Heather, daughter Elizabeth Chadwick, and grandsons, Scott and James. He was the son of the late James Miller Bogan and Carmen Page Bogan. Preceded in death by his sister Carmen Bogan Murrey. He was a graduate of Byrd High School where he was a member of The Drifters Club. He maintained lifelong relationships with his club members; a graduate of LSU; a member of Kiwanis; a member and usher at St. James Episcopal Church. He was a reservist in the United States Army. Jim was a loving husband, dedicated father, and great friend to all that knew him. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, and was an avid golfer. Visitation will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Friday, Sept. 11th from 10am-12pm with the service following at noon. Grave side service will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Abbeville, LA on Saturday at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. James Episcopal Church at 205 North 4th St., BR, LA 70801 or Cancer Services at 550 Lobdell Ave, BR, LA 70806.
