Joseph died when his first child was an small child / infant and his daughter was yet to be born. Then Irene, his wife, also died after their daughter was born. The 2 children [Lattie Cleveland and Mary Jane known as Janie] were adopted and raised by Cornelius Pitzer (CP) Black and his wife - Mary Elizabeth Garrison Black in addition to their own 16 children. According to family stories as told to me by Wilfred F Black and William Maurice Black, he was visiting his mother in law home on a Sunday morning when he collapsed and died.
