Alma Maddox Viar Bailey, 84, died Sunday May 3, 1987, in Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Campbell County, Dec. 28, 1902, she was the daughter of the late John Maddox and Emma Stearnes Maddox. She is survived by her husband, John Bailey, five daughters, Mrs. Ruth Overstreet, Richmond, Mrs. Hugh (Shirley) Tanner, Concord, Mrs. Johnny (Grace) Scammahorn and Mrs. Jimmy (Helen) Lipscomb, both of Lynchburg, and Mrs. J. B. (Beatrice) Vaden of Greensboro, NC; five sons, John Viar and Clarces Viar, both of Lynchburg, James Viar and Raymond Viar, both of Richmond, and Aubrey Viar of Suncook, N.H.; two stepdaughters, Delma Gowen, Gladys and Didamia Wood, Madison Heights; three sisters, Mrs. Belle Phillips, Evington, Mrs. Myrtle Kinney, Norfolk, and Mrs. Katie Wadlijka of Norwich, CT; two brothers, Hollie Maddox and Joe Maddox, both of Lynchburg; 36 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family will recieve friends from 7 to 9 pm. today at Flynn Funeral Home, Gladys and at other times at the home of a son, Clarces Viar. John Bailey will be at the home of Jimmy Gowen, Gladys. Graveside services will be held at 2 pm. Wednesday at Gladys Weslyan Church, The Rev. Mike Newman and the Rev. Joe Shields officiating.
