TONER, John J. Retired president of Toner Realty, passed away at age 90, August 21, 2009 in Fullerton, California where he resided for the last 41 years. He was born May 31, 1919 in Strool, South Dakota. In early 1942 John moved his family to Long Beach, California where he worked as a machinist and inspector for Douglas Aircraft throughout WWII. After the war John worked for several real estate brokers, honing his skills in real estate and land development. In 1956 John founded Toner Realty, a builder of apartments, residential units and mobile home parks where he worked from his Anaheim office with his brother and long time partner L.G. "Slim" Toner until his retirement in 1999. John loved good food, especially at Mr. Stox; golf; music, playing at least five instruments; and his extensive family of siblings, children, nieces and nephews.
Preceded by most of his friends and immediate family: brothers William "Red", L.G. "Slim" and Chuck, his wife of 66 years, Virginia, and his daughter Johnnie Christine Johnson. John is survived by his sister Mary Stowell of Lafayette, Indiana; sons Terry Toner of Brea, John T. Toner, Jr. of Coto de Caza; daughter Terri Toner Wise of Palm Harbor, Florida; and twelve grandchildren. The Memorial Mass will be held Friday, September 4th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fullerton, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Memorial Foundation, Fullerton, CA. McAulay & Wallace Mortuary
