TROY - John Paul Callicutt, 81, of 982 N. Main Street, died Monday, June 18, 2001, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell Street in Troy. The Rev. Mike Elliott and the Rev. Stan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Southside Cemetery, S. Main Street.

Mr. Callicutt was a retired owner of Rite Way Upholstery in Albemarle, though most recognized as a tenor soloist. He was a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International and a lifetime member. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served as soloist in the choir for 32 years. He was Chairman of the Official Board, Lay Leader, Chairmain of the Board of Stewards ann he, with this wife, served as Youth Counselors for seven years as well as Lay Delegates for N.C. Conference. He also served as President of Methodist Men and was a member of the Trinity Gospel Quartet.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a physical therapist and was a Tech Sgt. He received the American Theater Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with a bronze service star, Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Unit Award.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Bailey Callicutt of the home; daughter, Diane Callicutt of the home; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Pam Callicutt of Climax; sister, Mabel Mann of Troy; granddaughter, Caroline Medlin of Cary; granddaughter, Carla Hankins of Apex; great-granddaughter, Calli Medlin of Cary; and his beloved spaniel companion, "Lilly".

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at the Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street, Troy; and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell Street, Troy, N.C. 27371.
