Gregorio Damaturco came to the US from Italy. He worked as a street vendor, selling fruit, and eventually had a fruit store. He loved bananas and always kept some hanging by his bed in case he woke up hungry. Gregorio had four children: three daughters (one of whom was my grandmother) and a son. The son, Pasquale Damaturco, had no sons himself, so, as far as I know, Pasquale was the very last Damaturco. Gregorio lived to the age of 94, eating bananas to the last.
