Catherine Valeria Marks Riggan, 94, of Memphis, TN, formerly of Marion, AR, died August 24, 2009 at Allen Morgan Healthcare in Memphis, TN. She was the widow of Herbert H. Riggan and the daughter of the late George Evan and Lydia Attwood Marks. Mrs. Riggan was born November 3, 1914, in the Hebron Community near New Edinburg, AR and graduated from Henderson State Teachers College in 1936. Mrs. Riggan taught school in Stephens and Hulbert-West Memphis, AR. She was a member of the Marion United Methodist Church for 61 years. Mr. and Mrs. Riggan were married in 1941 and celebrated 62 years of marriage. She leaves four children, Betty Catherine Padgett (Hal) of Memphis, TN, Herbert Riggan, Jr. (Monie) of New Waverly, TX, Susan R. Thomas (Steve) of Eads, TN and Virginia R. Beasley (Ronny) of West Memphis, AR and one sister, Leah M. Wells of Arkadelphia, AR. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Riggan was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Sadler, Ruth Buie and Hazel Crews; one brother, George Meriwether Marks and one granddaughter, Kelly Elaine Riggan. Other survivors include seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. There will be a commital service at 12:30 P.M. at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, AR. The service will be Thursday August 27, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Marion United Methodist Church in Marion, AR. Memorials may be directed to the Marion United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
