Mr. Charles R. Jarvis, 69 years old, prominent London barber and churchman, died at 8:55 o'clock Thursday morning at the Marymount Hospital, 30 minutes afer he suffered a heart attackat the City Barber Shop where he was employed. He had suffered two previous attacks.
Luther Frye, a fellow barber, said that Mr. Jarvis, complaining of a choking feeling, had gotten in his (Frye's) chair for a haircut. Before Frye could finish, Mr. Jarvis suffered the attack and was removed to the hospital. A native of Harrison, MO, he was born July 20, 1885, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Williams Jarvis. He had been a barber in London for the last thirty-five years. Prior to this, he served eight years in the US Army and was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. He also was a former street car motorman. He was married Jan, 7, 1909 to Miss Cimmie Hale of Blackwater.
She preceded him in death Sept. 23, 1945. On June 20, 1946, he was married to Lillie Godsey of Vistory, KY, who survives him. Mr. Jarvis was a member of the Baptist Church and McKee Lodge No. 141, F&AM, and was past Master of Rose Council No. 81, Daughter of America. Surviving besides the wife are two sons, Otis Jarvis, Miami, FL, and Everett Jarvis, Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Mrs. Cordelia Sullivan, Corbin; and MRs. Luke Spicer, Irvine, KY and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church by the Revs. Geo. W. Phillips and A.H. Keith.
Burial followed in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery at Blackwater with the Rawlings Funeral Home in charge.
The Masonic Lodge officiated at the grave. Pallbearers were Ernest Sutton, O.H. Black, Roscoe Miller, Tom Craft, Harvey Rush and Cue Chance.
