Bernice Weinstein, former resident of Syracuse, died August 13 of age-related causes at the age of 92. The funeral will be held at Birnbaum's Funeral Home, 1909 E. Fayette St., Syracuse, NY, on August 18 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. After the funeral, friends may call Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon at the home of David Schultz. Bernice was born in Syracuse on February 8, 1917, to Rebecca and Louis Schultz. She graduated from Vocational High School, Syracuse. On October 8, 1939, she married Ralph Weinstein. The marriage lasted 68 years, until his death in December 2007. She was a homemaker, a great cook, a good neighbor and an active participant in B'nai Brith and Hadassah. She enjoyed flowers, little children, the company of friends and family, and playing cards and mahjong. She will be remembered most of all as a very loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her brother, David Schultz; sisters-in-law, Bernice and Selma Schultz; her children and their spouses, Annette and John Buckmaster, and Mark and Deborah Weinstein; grandchildren and their spouses, Simon and Marcie Buckmaster, Rachel and Douglas Zucker, and Lauren and Tim Hodler; her great-grandson, Devin Zucker, great-granddaughters, Avery and Lila Zucker, and Ariel and Hannah Buckmaster; and one great-granddaughter-to-be, to be born in September. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Louis J. Schultz Scholarship Fund, Syracuse University Office of Development, 820 Comstock Avenue, Syracuse, New York 13244-5040.
