Granny was born to J. Laborn Helton (b. 1856) and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Wilson in Bedford County, Tennessee. Her dad journied to California with his wife and 5 children for his wife's health. She died...Laborn "rolled" his wagon as a peddler to Wheel, Bedford County, Tennessee and opened a general store.

Please refer to Pappy's bio for the names of their 10 children.

Granny and Granddaddy were tenant farmers most of their lives in Tennessee. Loved and respected by all their family members, Granny was probably our favorite! She could cook a great fried pie, stir a wicked hot toddy and keep your hands warm. She could do anything!
