Trannie Smith Akins, 92, of Cordova, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Collins-Burke Funeral Home Chapel in Jasper with burial in the Union Chapel Cemetery in Cordova. Chaplain John Warren will officiate. Collins-Burke Funeral Home will direct. Visitation will be today, Aug. 7, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Dan Akins; daughter, Mildred Trapp; infant son, Daniel Akins Jr.; granddaughter, Bridget Akins; mother, Bernice Smith; father, William Hawkins Smith; brothers, Cranford Smith, Will Smith, Henry Smith, Bud Smith and Lester Smith; and sisters, Maude Gurganus and Fannie Davis.

Survivors include her sons, Fred Akins (Sarah) of Pinson, James Akins of Jasper, David Akins (Judy) of Jasper, and Kenneth Randall Akins of Jasper; daughters, Mary Thompson of Newton and Judy Brown (Dayron) of Cordova; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gary Thompson, Danny Brown, Matthew Brown, Jacob Brown, Mason Akins, Austin Robinson, Steve Akins and Adam Akins.
