Robert (Bob) Johnston, 91, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Friday, March 4, 2011, in Wichita Falls.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2011, at the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
Mr. Johnston was born to Claude Alva Johnston and Dora Loretta Meriwether on July 10, 1919, in Grandfield, Oklahoma. His early life was spent in Tillman County, Oklahoma. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Signal Corp. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Bob's working career was in several phases of the oil industry, as a drilling contractor with his brother. In 1960 he started a well logging company, Associated Wire Line Service until 2008.
Bob was preceded in death in 2008 by his wife of 67 years, Velma Mae Johnston; a son, Robert Johnston, Jr. in 2007; and a brother in 1976. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Kaye Johnston; daughter-in-law, Kay Johnston; three grandchildren, David Johnston and wife, Hannah, Matt Johnston and wife, Shauna, and Crystal Johnston; and one great-grandchild, Gavin Johnston, all of Wichita Falls.
The family will receive friends and family from 4 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
