Joseph William "Will" Darst, son of Sarah Eva Davidson and Joseph Vinton Darst, married his 1st wife, Ida Belle Ruckwied the daughter of Christopher "Chris" Ruckwied and Margaret Ann Shaneyfelt. Joseph was a 25 year old farmer in Salamonia, when he got married on November 26th, 1893 in Salamonia, Jay County, Indiana. They had two known children together, a son Morris Vernon, and a daughter Mabel Winifred.

The 1900 US-Census for Madison Township, Salamonia town, Jay County, Indiana list: Joseph W. Darst age 30, Married-Head of Household-Farmer, wife Ida B. Darst age 24, two children; son Morris V. age 4, and daughter Mable W. age 1. Also listed is a Farm-Laborer, Waite Castle age 16. All listed born in Indiana. (They are living next door to his wife's parents, Christopher and Mararet Ruckwied.)

A 1907 Madison Township Directory for Salamonia town, Jay County, Indiana list: William, his wife Ida and their two children, Vernon and Winnie, living at sec 9, h, 50, Salamonia RR1, on a farm next door to his wife's parents, Christopher and Mararet Ruckwied. (Also living on a farm nearby is his cousin, Charles W. and Lola Darst, and his parent's farm.)

The 1910 US-Census for Madison, Jay County, Indiana list: James (Joseph) W. Darst age 40, Married-Head of Household, wife Ida B. age 34, and their two children; son Morris V. age 13, and daughter Mable W. age 11. All listed born in Indiana.

The 1920 US-Census for Madison, Jay County, Indiana list: William Darst age 49, and his mother Sarah Darst age 73, living with his sister, Edith and her husband William Sorbray and their three children. William Sorbray is listed as Head of Household, however the farm originally belonged to William Darst's parents, Sarah and Joseph Darst.

Joseph married his 2nd wife, Nora Scott the daughter of Thomas Fletcher Scott and Uree Ann Slater on February 24th, 1921 in Grant County, Indiana. They had no children together.
