Obituary:

Ruby L. Batten, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, in a local nursing facility.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Batten; son, Everett Cooke; parents; two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her son, Charleston (Marie) Cook; seven grandchildren, Rory Cook, Chattanooga, Larry (Karen) Cooke, Greenville, S.C., Kenneth (Sonya) Cooke, Lawrenceville, Ga., Vincent (Jennifer) Cook, Charlotte, N.C., Belinda Cooke Taylor, Chattanooga, and Valerie Grier, Union City, Ga.; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Mildred Cooke, Chattanooga; nieces, Yvonne L. (Larry) Orr and Melverline Florence, both of Chattanooga; nephews, Ronnie Porter and Wilfred (Ernestine) Middlebrooks, both of Chattanooga, and Joel (Carolyn) Caudle, Nashville; a host of other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Johnny Watson officiating.

Burial in National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state on Sunday after noon in the chapel.
