Raymond Eugene (Gene) Leedy, 71, of Syracuse died at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at his residence. He was born on January 13, 1938 in Etna, IN to Kenneth R. & Lona M. (Gaff) Leedy.

He graduated in 1956 from Larwill High School and attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN. He was a Whitley, Noble, & Kosciusko County lifetime area resident and moved to Syracuse in 1975. He was married on April 30, 1981 in Syracuse to Sherry L. (Hershberger) Hoover who survives.

He was formerly employed as an accountant at Sam Patton Accounting in Ligonier for many years. He was co-owner & operator of Leedy's Variety Store in Cromwell, Ligonier & Wolcottville in the 1960's & 70's. He was also the owner of Merchandise Access & R.E. Leedy Tax Services both of Syracuse.

He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, former charter member of the Wawasee Kiwanis Club in Syracuse, and was a former Boy Scout Leader in Cromwell. He served in the United States National Guard.

He is survived by: Wife – Sherry Leedy of Syracuse; 2 Daughters – Debra Hasse of Syracuse & Lisa Leedy of Bloomington; 4 Sons – Tom (wife, Kerri Axel) Leedy of Kendallville, Greg Leedy of Cromwell, Kevin (wife, Terri) Leedy of Hudson, IN, Steve (wife, Michelli) Leedy of Elko, NV; 1 Step-Son – James Hoover of Syracuse; 22 Grand & 3 Gt. Grandchildren; 1 Sister – Mrs. Daryle (Marlene) Hill of Albion; 1 Brother – Tony Leedy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister – Joy Butler.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26. 2009 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 801 S. Huntington St. in Syracuse, with Rev. David Herr of the church officiating. Burial will be in the Pierceton Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial bequest may be given to Calvary United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
