Shirley A. Burris Elston, 74, of 6902 N. County Road 990 West, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at St. Elizabeth East hospital, Lafayette. She had been in declining health two years.

She was born May 5, 1937, in Tippecanoe County, and was the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Imes Burris. She attended the former Pittsburg School.

She married Raymond F. Elston on April 13, 1952, and he survives.

Mrs. Elston was a nurse's aide for many years at nursing homes in Delphi and Monticello.

She attended Hickory Grove Church and was a member of Westside Flower Club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, playing euchre and bunco, and was in card clubs for many years. She volunteered at Logansport State Hospital for many years, during the holidays.

Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Debbie Gipson (husband: David) of Delphi, Julie Combs (husband: Harold Jr.) of Burnettsville and Pam Owens (husband: George) of Monticello; two sons, Kenny Elston of Brookston and Steven Elston of Delphi; and two sisters, Phyllis Dague (husband: David ) of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Marilyn Henningan (companion: Rick) of Magnolia, Texas.

Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 3 brothers, 1 sister. She was married at Hickory Grove Church, on Easter Sunday 1952. She was devoted to her family.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until her funeral at 2:30 p.m. at the Pittsburg Community Church, the Rev. John Wagner officiating. Private family burial at Yeoman Cemetery.
