Per death certificate: He was married, wife Oma Brown. Cause of death was murder, no further details. His age at death was 35 yrs, 11 mos, 22 days. Father was GM Brown (George Mack) and mother was Elizabeth McGaha. Informant was Mrs. E.B. Brown, Waynesville.

Joel Canary "Scott" Brown, husband of Oma Hicks Brown, was murdered by Frank McGaha, Sylvester Brown and Vornelle Gates on 22 Aug 1930. They also killed Mims White. Wife Oma, was arrested for aiding & conspiring but plead not guilty. Charges dropped.
