Nicholas Lofftus Barry, 61, Fort Bidwell, died Sunday at Fort Bidwell.

He was born in Lakeview to Nicholas Barry Sr. and Aeolus Barry.

His childhood years were spent in Lakeview and the Warner Valley working on the family ranch. He was schooled in Adel and Lakeview schools and attended then-Oregon State College on a football scholarship. During World War II he left college to enter the Navy. He was a flight engineer in the Naval Transport Service and flew many missions in the South Pacific.

Following his discharge, Mr. Barry worked for the Oregon State Police for 20 years. He retired and worked on various ranches in Warner Valley and Surprise Valley. Mr. Barry also did carpentry work around Fort Bidwell.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia, Fort Bidwell; sisters, Catheryn Baalman, Fort Bidwell, Ruth Cox Thompson, Lakeview, Nelli Herringer, Courtland, Calif., and Betty Filkins, Spokane, Wash., daughters, Sherramy Poden, Japan, Leigh Barry, Roseburg, Kit Harris, Reno, Nev., and Molly McClung, Bothell, Wash.,
grandson Breagh Bushman, stepsons, Jim Olmsted and Ernest Givens, no towns listed.

Mr. Barry was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Modoc County Historical Society and Fort Bidwell Volunteer Fire Department.
