DR. J.S. CATER
---Dr. J. S. Cater, former La Plata resident, a long-time physician died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. C. Moore at Hoopeston, Illinois Thursday. He had suffered a stroke of paralysis on Thursday the week before his death.
---His funeral services were held here Saturday afternoon at 1:00 from the D.S. Christie Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Fred L. Hudson.
---Dr. Cater was seventy-eight years old. He had practiced medicine for the past fifty-five years. His first practice was at Bullion in Adair County. He also practiced at Plevna, Knox County and up until four years ago he had practiced in Marceline.
---He had been with his daughter the past four years. He spent the winters in Florida with another daughter and son.
---Dr. Cater was married to India Whitesell in 1886. She preceded him in death August 31, 1938.
---Dr. Cater leaves the following children to mourn his passing. Mrs. J.C. Moore, Hoopeston, Illinois, Mrs. Willard McWilliams of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Mrs. Daisy Yount of St. Joseph, Clark Cater of Oak Park, Illinois and Raymond Cater of Winterhaven, Florida.
---Burial of Dr. Cater was made in the family mausoleum in the La Plata cemetery.
---Among the relatives who attended the funeral of Dr. J.S. Cater here Saturday were Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Moore and son Joe of Hoopeston, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. F.C. Cater and son of Oak Park, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer F. Cater and Mrs. Arch Lewis of Jasksonville, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer of St. Louis and Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Hunsaker of Kirksville.
---Children of Dr. Cater who were unable to attend were: Mrs. W. L. McWilliams of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, R.W. Cater of Winterhaven, Florida and Mrs. J.W. Yount of St. Joseph, Missouri. A brother, Charles A. Cater of Warren, Ohio and a half-sister, Mrs. John Gilles of Los Angeles, California.
