Lara Stefancin Nelson was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of California. She liked to call herself the original and true "Valley Girl". She was an only child from a good family with a rebel soul. She had friends in all "walks of life" including the Hell's Angels. She married young for a brief time to "Slim" Nelson, who predeceased her.

Lara had many talents and hobbies. She was a natural artist, a gifted photographer, and a writer. She competed in archery when she was young. She loved to design and make beaded jewelry, cook gourmet meals for her family and friends and grow strangely-colored vegetables in pots. She read voraciously and kept a journal, which she wrote in regularly. She loved animals, especially wolves and Samoyed dogs. She was an early participant of the original Renaissance Faire in Agoura, CA. She loved the change of the seasons and to celebrate the holidays - dying Easter Eggs, carving pumpkins, decorating the Christmas tree, or watching the Fourth of July fireworks. She loved music and enjoyed attending concerts. She had many friends in the music world, including Robert Plant and the late Lowell George of Little Feat.

Lara was truly interested in everything and everyone. On a trip to England many years ago, she "interviewed" everyone she came across…the head chef of a prestigious restaurant about Christmas pudding, the taxi driver who drove us to our timeshare about the hated Pole tax and the gentlemen waiting with fresh horses at a rest stop in Leicestershire about the fox hunt. If it were not for Lara, the rest of us would have minded our own business. Having her there enriched our travels.

Lara was a great champion to her friends and loved ones. She was always on your side and would unfailingly bolster your ego when you were feeling down.

She was a very spiritual person. She loved to contemplate nature – the stars, the ocean, the forest – and wonder about our place in it. Although she was a Catholic girl at her core, she was also interested in many other faiths. Tibetan Buddhism, Hinduism, The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Wicca, and Native American Spiritualism were just some of the paths that she explored.

Lara lived the latter part of life at South Lake Tahoe, California. It was there that she gave birth to her son, Rhys. He was her proudest accomplishment and greatest joy. Sadly she passed away unexpectedly and far too soon on March 6, 2009. She leaves behind her son, her parents, and many friends.
Her intelligence, charm, friendship, and zest for life will be truly missed!
