He served in World War II in the 306th Ordnance Maintenance Company AAA of General Patton's 3rd Army. Mr. Atkinson was part of the Army of Occupation in Germany, where he met his wife to be of 53 years, the late Hermine Maier Atkinson, who passed away in July, 2001. He worked for Dupont Fibers for 46 years.
Survivors include his two children, Clyde D. Atkinson Jr. and Elizabeth A. Atkinson; five grandchildren, James Alcorn, Jeremy Alcorn, Joshua Alcorn, Jenna Alcorn and Michelle Ewing; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Grace Crouch; and other loving family members.
