Fannie, Betsy's mother, went out for water in a blizzard, became lost and died in the snowstorm. Betsy was 17 years old, therefore, of marriageable age; it was considered unproper for her to live with her step-father so they married Dec 1874 and she bore three children by him.
Evidently, she was unhappy with this arrangement for after the 1880 Federal Census she left George and their three children. She subsequently married Leland Williams about 1882 and they had 7 children.
