Harold A. Buker, 83, of Winslow passed away at MaineGeneral Medical Center on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, with his family by his side.

During his long illness, he was lovingly cared for by his family at home.

Harold was born in Fairfield on March 16, 1926, the son of the late Henry and Nathalie (Garland) Buker. He served in the Army and fought bravely during World War II alongside his twin brother, Carroll.

He married Ruth Lawrence on Sept. 2, 1944.

They were well-known locally for their musical talent, writing and singing beautiful songs for the many years they were together. Music was a major part of their lives. Their band, Interstate 95, played every weekend for several years at the Fairfield Veterans of Foreign Wars, where Harold was a life member.

In recent years, he truly cherished the time spent in his garage playing music with his family and friends.

He was predeceased by one sister, Thelma "Sistie" Marston; his twin brother, Carroll Buker; and his brothers, Carl "Bozo" Buker and Robert Buker.

Surviving is his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Shannon Bizier and her husband, Jeremiah, of Oakland; two grandchildren, Martina Bizier and D. Cash Bizier; one brother, Kenneth Buker and his wife, Josephine, of Albion; two sisters, Beverly Robinson and her husband, Eugene, of Winslow and Maxine Brown and her husband, Joseph, of Jefferson; and many very special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St. in Fairfield.

Graveside services will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
