John Akers Lawson Sr., 88, of Shamrock Drive, Ridgeway, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in Patrick County on Sept. 22, 1918 to Willis Lawson and Susie Walker Lawson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Watkins Lawson; a son, Johnny Lawson; four sisters, Beatrice Morse, Mozelle Dalton, Erma Lawson and Virginia Inman; and two brothers, Aubrey Lawson and Ruffin Lawson.
He graduated from Stuart High School and served in the Army during World War II.
He retired from DuPont as a maintenance supervisor with 40 years of service and was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church in Lawsonville, N.C.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services chapel with the Revs. Terry Ragsdale and Johnson Gupton officiating. Burial will be in the Peters Creek Baptist Church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
