She was Lizzie McPherson before her marriage, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Edward McPherson of Castle Hill. The Howes lived on the Guy Kirk farm before they moved to the present residence on Masardis road. She lived there 23 years. Fourteen children were born to them of whom 12 are now living. These children were named in alphabetical order, the names of those now living being Allen, Beatrice, Charlene, Della, Eugena, Fredena, Guy, Harriett, Isaac, Janice, Kay and Merton.
Mrs. Howes was held in the highest regard by those that knew her. She was a fine, kindly, generous women, a good neighbor, and was an excellent, efficient worker in all she undertook. Her family and friends deeply mourn her untimely passing. She was a member of the Grange and the Farm Bureau.
She leaves her Mother, Mrs Anice McPherson, her husband, Fred Howes, four sons, Guy and Merton of Ashland, Isaac of Panama, and Allen of Corinna: and eight daughters: Mrs John Hoffses and Mrs Eddie Coro of Mapleton: Mrs Wilfred Caron of Frenchville: Mrs Harley Anderson and Mrs Charles Adams of Bangor. Mrs Harold Anderson of Fairfield: Mrs Celestine Coty and Mrs Ted St. Peter of Ashland. She leaves also three sisters, Mrs George Reed of Ashland. Mrs David Hume of Mapleton and Mrs Al Ballard of Ashland: three brothers, Benjamin McPherson and Phillip McPherson of Mapleton and Bert McPherson whose address is unknown.
Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Congregational church with Robert Haldane officiating. There were a great many flowers and many friends, neighbors and relatives present. Burial was in the local cemetery.
