CHAMPLIN - Mary Jo (Slama), went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2009, after a long illness. She was born August 16, 1925, to Benjamin F. and Grace Myers Slama in Apache, OK. She graduated from Apache High School. She was an RN, having graduated from Oklahoma University School of Nursing. She married Charles Ross Champlin in 1951, and spent two years in Fairbanks AK while Charles was in the Air Force. They lived in the Tulsa OK area for the past 50 years. Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Billy J. Slama. Those surviving her include: husband, Charles R. Champlin of Broken Arrow, OK and the following sons and spouses, Dr. Franklin Ross of Tulsa, Fred and Brenda and Greg and Janice of Broken Arrow, Joseph and Valerie of Inola, OK and Don and Nicole of Porter, TX; grandchildren are Bryan, Ben, Carissa, Christopher, Laura, Micheal, Jennifer, Amber, Samantha and Aubry; great-grandchildren are Ciara, Kyra and Kaleb. Mary Jo was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tulsa and prior to her illness was active in teaching childrens' Sunday School classes for many years as well as numerous other church activities. When her sons were young she was active in Boy Scouting and was a den mother for a number of years. She enjoyed watching figure skating on television and became familiar with many of the participants. She loved her family dearly and particularly enjoyed holidays when all the family could be together. Funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Floral Haven Funeral Home Chapel, Broken Arrow, OK. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice. Floral Haven 252-2518.
