Waynesville, John Daniel Hampton, age 87, of Woodchuck Way, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

John was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, and was the son of the late Thad and Estella Mae Stepp Hampton. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three sisters, Lulabell Stamey, Rubine Goodson and Hazel Rathbone and two brothers, Robert and Ted Hampton. John retired from Mountain Builders with over 20 years of service and after his retirement, worked at Haywood Builders Supply as a Truck Driver. He was a WWII Army veteran and was of the Baptist Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Dot Hampton; a son, Kenneth Hampton, and his wife, Stephanie; two daughters, Linda Cribb, and her husband, Danny and Loretta Rich, and her husband, David all of Clyde; one sister, Edith Putnam, of Canton; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Kenny Banks officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park.
